Drive your own dog sled team on a one-week Arctic expedition through the remote wilderness of Dividalen. Small groups, mountain cabins and authentic expedition travel.

General information

Discover Dividalen National Park, one of Europe’s last great wilderness areas, on a true Arctic dog sledding expedition.

Your journey begins at our family-run husky farm in Northern Norway, where you meet your dog team, learn expedition skills and prepare for the adventure ahead. No previous dog sledding experience is required, and our experienced guides take the time to teach, support and adapt the journey to each participant.

We then spend five days travelling through the remote wilderness of Dividalen National Park with your own team of 4–6 Alaskan huskies, crossing frozen lakes, silent forests, mountain valleys and open plateaus far beyond roads and crowds. Nights are spent in remote mountain cabins, with the possibility of winter camping depending on the route, weather conditions and the wishes of the group.

Travelling in a small group of only 2–5 participants allows us to offer a genuine expedition experience with plenty of individual coaching, flexibility and time to enjoy the journey. Each participant is responsible for their own dog team, learning how to harness, care for and work together with the dogs throughout the expedition.

Along the way, we follow landscapes that have been travelled for generations by Sámi reindeer herders. We share stories about the area’s history, wildlife and traditional use of the land, helping guests gain a deeper understanding of the Arctic beyond the expedition itself. If weather and solar activity are on our side, evenings in the mountains may also reward us with the Northern Lights dancing above the cabins or camp.

The expedition finishes back at the husky farm, where a warm shower, wood-fired sauna and farewell dinner await before your journey home the following morning.

This expedition is designed for guests with a moderate level of fitness who are looking for more than a holiday – an authentic Arctic adventure shared with dogs, nature and a small team of like-minded travellers.

About OffTrack Experience

Private Arctic expeditions in small groups – personally hosted by locals.

OffTrack Experience is a small, host-run adventure company in the Tromsø region, offering carefully crafted Arctic experiences for private groups and small-group travellers.

We specialise in exclusive, small-scale journeys designed for guests who want a more personal and authentic way to experience Northern Norway. Instead of large groups and fast-paced tourism, our guests travel at a slower rhythm — spending time in nature, with the dogs, at sea, and with the people who live here.

Our experiences take place both on land and along the Arctic coastline, combining dogsledding, sailing and wilderness travel across seasons.

In winter, dogsledding in the Tromsø region is at the heart of what we do. Guests learn to drive their own team of sled dogs and travel through quiet Arctic landscapes where nature sets the pace. Rather than short rides, we focus on real dogsledding experiences with time, depth and a strong connection to the environment.

What truly sets OffTrack Experience apart are our overnight dogsledding tours and multi-day wilderness expeditions, taking guests further into the Arctic than typical day tours. Evenings are spent in remote nature, often under the northern lights, sharing a warm meal after a day on the trail.

At sea, we offer small-group Arctic sailing experiences along the northern Norwegian coast. From ski & sail adventures in spring to whale watching and orca snorkelling tours in early winter, our boat-based journeys follow the same philosophy: small groups, remote places, and meaningful experiences.

Whether travelling by sled or sailboat, all experiences are private or limited to very small groups, and always personally hosted by us. We share everyday Arctic life with our guests — from working with the dogs to life at sea and in the wilderness.

Food is an important part of the experience. We serve seasonal meals based on local ingredients, including wild moose, fish, and produce from the region. Vegetarian and vegan options are always available, and we are happy to accommodate dietary preferences.

OffTrack Experience is for travellers who value nature, authenticity, privacy, and local knowledge — and who are looking for Arctic experiences in Tromsø beyond traditional mass tourism.

Accessibility

Our base is located in a rural area in the Tromsø region. We offer daily pick-up from Bardufoss and private transfers from Tromsø or Narvik on request.

Due to the nature of dogsledding and wilderness travel, a moderate level of mobility is required. Please contact us to discuss individual needs.

Families and children

Dogsledding tours are generally suitable for children from around 8–10 years old.

Private trips can be adapted, and younger children may join on request.

Overnight expeditions are best suited for older children, teenagers, and adults.

Environmental certification and sustainability

OffTrack Experience has been certified by Hanen – Norwegian Ecotourism since 2021. This reflects our commitment to sustainable, small-scale tourism, respect for nature, and strong connections to local culture and food traditions.

Food service

Food is a central part of the experience, based on local and seasonal ingredients.

Vegetarian and vegan options are available, and all dietary needs can be accommodated.
