Combine Northern Lights, an overnight stay at an Aurora Camp and dog sledding near Tromsø on this unique Arctic adventure.

General information

Combine the best of two worlds with an overnight stay at our Aurora Camp and a dog sledding tour the following morning.

After a short drive from Tromsø city centre, you will arrive at our centre, where we will provide thermal overalls and boots to keep you warm and comfortable while you wait for the Northern Lights to appear.

You will then join a guided tour of our dog yard, where you can meet and cuddle some of our 200 Alaskan huskies. You will also visit our puppies, who cannot wait to play with you. Afterwards, dinner will be served in our gamme, a traditional Sámi hut. The meal is bacalao, a dish made with Norwegian salt cod, tomato, garlic, chilli and olives. A vegetarian alternative is also available.

Spend the rest of the evening outdoors around the bonfire, keeping watch for the Northern Lights. Our centre is located approximately 25 minutes from Tromsø, away from the city lights, providing dark skies that are ideal for aurora watching. Stay outside for as long as you like. When you are ready for bed, your lavvu awaits, furnished with soft reindeer skins and high-quality camping equipment.

Accommodation in a shared lavvu is included in the price. If you would prefer a private lavvu, please let us know in the comment field when booking. This costs an additional NOK 2,500 per night.

The following morning, after a hearty breakfast, you will set off on a dog sledding adventure. You can choose to ride as a passenger while one of our experienced guides drives or drive your own dog team. Please note that you must be at least 16 years old and in good physical condition to drive your own team.

With both options, you will share the sled with another guest and spend approximately 45 minutes on the sled, depending on the weather and trail conditions.

Back at our centre, a hot lunch of bidos, a traditional Sámi reindeer stew, will help you regain your energy before you say goodbye to the dogs and return to Tromsø. You will arrive back in the city centre at approximately 12:45.

About Tromsø Villmarkssenter

30 years ago, the renowned dog sled racer Tove Sørensen opened her home to guests from all over the world.

Since then, she and her family have dedicated their lives to educating visitors about Alaskan huskies, dog sledding and Arctic nature through sustainable outdoor activities.

We strive to be inclusive hosts in every regard – everybody who shares our passion is welcome. Vegetarian and vegan alternatives are available for all our programmes, and most of our activities are suitable for the whole family. Let your little ones play with our little ones in the puppy training programme, or take them on a sledding adventure safely chauffeured by one of our experienced guides. Infants aged 0–2 years are always free of charge, and we offer discounts for children.

Our facilities are also wheelchair accessible, and our dog sledding ride programme in particular is well suited to people with disabilities. However, our walkways can be a little difficult to manoeuvre, especially when covered in snow. Therefore, we recommend bringing a helper with you when you visit. Our standard shuttle service requires guests to board the bus independently, but we can arrange specialised transportation upon request. Please contact us if you are planning a visit; we would be delighted to tailor a smooth and barrier-free experience for you.

On our programmes, you will not only experience everything we love about our home, but also discover your own connection to the Arctic. Whether you let us teach you how to drive a sled or allow a four-legged hiking companion to show you their favourite trails, Tromsø Villmarkssenter is your home in the wilderness.
