If you want more than just a typical Northern Lights experience, this is the perfect adventure for you. Combine the best of two worlds with an overnight stay in our Aurora Camp and a dog sledding tour the following day.

General information

After a short drive from Tromsø city, you will arrive at our centre, where we will equip you with thermal overalls and boots to keep you warm and cosy while waiting for the lights to appear.

You will then go on a guided tour of our dog yard, where you can meet and cuddle our 200 Alaskan huskies. You will also visit our puppies, who simply cannot wait to play with you. Afterwards, we will serve dinner in our gamme. You can try bacalao, a traditional Norwegian fish dish made from locally sourced cod, but we also offer a vegetarian alternative.

The rest of the evening can be spent outdoors watching for the Northern Lights around a bonfire. As our centre is a 25-minute drive from Tromsø and away from the city lights, the sky overhead is dark and ideal for Aurora watching. Stay outside as long as you like. When you get tired, our lavvu tent, furnished with soft reindeer skins and high-quality camping gear, awaits you for the night. Accommodation in a shared tent is included in the price. If you would prefer private accommodation, please contact us.

The next morning, after a hearty breakfast, we will take you out on a dog sledding adventure. You can choose whether you would like to ride as a passenger with one of our experienced guides or drive your own sled. Please note that the self-drive activity has an age limit of 16 years and requires a good level of physical fitness. For both options, you will spend approximately 45 minutes on the sled (depending on the weather conditions) and share it with another guest.

Back at our centre, a hot lunch of bidos, a traditional Sami reindeer stew, will restore your strength before you say goodbye to our dogs and we take you back to Tromsø (arrival approximately 12:45 PM (12:45)).

Important:

• If you are travelling with small children or infants, you must bring your own car seat or arrange your own transportation. We cannot guarantee the availability of child seats in our transport. Using your own transport is optional, and the price remains the same.

• Age limit for Self-Drive: 16 years

Included: Guide, transfer (25 minutes each way), approximately 45 minutes of dog sledding, dog yard guiding and puppy visit, thermal clothing, overnight stay in a shared tent, camping equipment, all meals and hot drinks
Please bring: Warm base layers, gloves, a hat and everything you need for the overnight stay
Departure time and place: 6:45 PM (18:45) outside Radisson Blu Hotel
Duration: Approximately 18 hours. You will return to Tromsø city centre at around 12:45 PM (12:45) the following day
Level of difficulty – Ride: Easy
Level of difficulty – Self-Drive: Moderate to challenging

About Tromsø Villmarkssenter

30 years ago, the renowned dog sled racer Tove Sørensen opened her home to guests from all over the world.

Since then, she and her family have dedicated their lives to educating visitors about Alaskan huskies, dog sledding and Arctic nature through sustainable outdoor activities.

We strive to be inclusive hosts in every regard – everybody who shares our passion is welcome. Vegetarian and vegan alternatives are available for all our programmes, and most of our activities are suitable for the whole family. Let your little ones play with our little ones in the puppy training programme, or take them on a sledding adventure safely chauffeured by one of our experienced guides. Infants aged 0–2 years are always free of charge, and we offer discounts for children.

Our facilities are also wheelchair accessible, and our dog sledding ride programme in particular is well suited to people with disabilities. However, our walkways can be a little difficult to manoeuvre, especially when covered in snow. Therefore, we recommend bringing a helper with you when you visit. Our standard shuttle service requires guests to board the bus independently, but we can arrange specialised transportation upon request. Please contact us if you are planning a visit; we would be delighted to tailor a smooth and barrier-free experience for you.

On our programmes, you will not only experience everything we love about our home, but also discover your own connection to the Arctic. Whether you let us teach you how to drive a sled or allow a four-legged hiking companion to show you their favourite trails, Tromsø Villmarkssenter is your home in the wilderness.
