Tromsø is a mecca for eager café goers. You will find plenty of cosy places in Tromsø offering a delicious lunch, warm cosiness, good conversations and, not least, good coffee!

Did you know that Norwegians are world leaders when it comes to coffee drinking? We drink an average of four cups of coffee every day. This statistic also applies to the locals of Tromsø because, here in Tromsø, we have excellent coffee. You can enjoy a coffee with fresh pastries, freshly baked bread, cakes and or tasty lunch dishes.

Here are our favourite cafés in Tromsø. However, we warn you – there are many! We recommend visiting several places to find your personal favourite. 

Vervet Bakeri

This bakery, which has a beautiful location in the new district of Vervet, offers quality coffee, home-baked bread, delicious pastries and wonderful views of the strait and mountains. This trendy and popular place has delicious sandwiches on the lunch menu.

Smørtorget Kaffebar

This unique café has a distinctive charm. The café is located inside a second-hand shop. You may meet artists and designers at work, and you can trawl the shop for retro treasures. This café serves excellent coffee made by skilled baristas along with a selection of pastries and lunch dishes.

Selfie Konditori 

This is Tromsø’s most Instagram-friendly hotspot! This little gem of a café serves classic lunch dishes such as Croque Monsieur and Caesar salad. They make their own cakes based on French confectionery art and serve Tromsø’s best hot chocolate with cream.

Koseverden & Koselig kafé

The name means cosy and it certainly is! This café serves a wide selection of good coffee from a local roaster as well as healthy and tasty dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The focus at the small patisserie, Koseverden, is on craftsmanship. Everything is made from scratch. It’s an experience for your sense of taste and for your eyes.

Helmersen delikatesser og vinbar

Helmersen is a popular café in Tromsø! With its central location on Storgata, Helmersen offers a delicious seasonal menu with local ingredients inspired by Mediterranean cuisine. This place definitely tickles your taste buds and offers a homely atmosphere in a rustic environment. An eternal winner with locals and visitors alike! 

Pust Kafé

Pust is a hip café and wine bar in the heart of Tromsø. An inclusive and warm hang out, with plant-based and seasonal food on the menu, chill music and a relaxing atmosphere. Pust Kafé is part of the Pust concept, which also operates a floating sauna in the harbour. Both the cafe and the sauna are highly popular among trendy Tromsø locals!

Fjellstua 

Fjellstua offers great coffee, cakes, waffles and hot dishes with the city's best view! With local ingredients, Fjellstua serves the most delicious dishes, 421 meters above sea level. You can choose to take the cable car Fjellheisen up to the top station or, during summer and autumn, you can also walk the scenic Sherpa stairs. Anyway, be prepared for a high wow factor!
