General information

This tour is conducted by Arctic Guide Service.

On this tour we take you on a walk around the small city centre of Tromsø that has been founded in 1795 on the island of Tromsøya. The city, which was also called the Gateway to the Arctic, has been throughout history the start for several Polar Expeditions. Tromsø has been an important base for many polar expeditions, and the Polar Museum exhibits and presents this polar seafaring tradition. After the visit at the Polar Museum, we will go to Full Steam where we will visit the exhibitions about the Maritime and Fisheries history as well as Sea Sami culture and history. The walk continues through the main street “Storgata” towards Framsenteret, one of the main centers for researchers in Northern Norway. We will also walk close to Polaria and Ølhallen, Tromsøs oldest pub. Ølhallen used to be a popular place to stay for fishermen and explorers. The itinerary can be different depending in the opening hours of the Polar museum and Full Steam.
