Urban experiences meets raw Arctic nature
Husky Sled Ride
Lean back in your sled and enjoy the moment while one of our experienced mushers drives you safely through the stunning mountain landscape of Kvaløya Island.
General information
This tour is conducted by Tromsø Villmarkssenter.
This tour is perfect for photography enthusiasts, families with children, or anyone who wants to go on an adventure while relaxing in comfort.
Upon arrival at our centre, located 25 minutes outside Tromsø city, you will receive thermal overalls and boots to keep you warm and comfortable during your stay. Once you are well equipped, our guides will take you on an approximately 45-minute sled ride (depending on weather conditions), shared with another guest.
When you return, our 200 Alaskan huskies and their puppies will eagerly await your visit. During a guided tour of our dog yard, you can learn about the Alaskan Husky breed, dog sled racing and animal welfare. After the tour, you can relax and warm up around an open fire in our cosy gamme. Here, you will also be served hot drinks and lunch. You can try bidos, a traditional Sami reindeer dish, but we also offer a vegetarian option upon request in advance. A piece of our world-famous chocolate cake for dessert will be the final highlight before we make our way back to Tromsø.

About Tromsø Villmarkssenter
30 years ago, the renowned dog sled racer Tove Sørensen opened her home to guests from all over the world.
Since then, she and her family have dedicated their lives to educating visitors about Alaskan huskies, dog sledding and Arctic nature through sustainable outdoor activities.
We strive to be inclusive hosts in every regard – everybody who shares our passion is welcome. Vegetarian and vegan alternatives are available for all our programmes, and most of our activities are suitable for the whole family. Let your little ones play with our little ones in the puppy training programme, or take them on a sledding adventure safely chauffeured by one of our experienced guides. Infants aged 0–2 years are always free of charge, and we offer discounts for children.
Our facilities are also wheelchair accessible, and our dog sledding ride programme in particular is well suited to people with disabilities. However, our walkways can be a little difficult to manoeuvre, especially when covered in snow. Therefore, we recommend bringing a helper with you when you visit. Our standard shuttle service requires guests to board the bus independently, but we can arrange specialised transportation upon request. Please contact us if you are planning a visit; we would be delighted to tailor a smooth and barrier-free experience for you.
On our programmes, you will not only experience everything we love about our home, but also discover your own connection to the Arctic. Whether you let us teach you how to drive a sled or allow a four-legged hiking companion to show you their favourite trails, Tromsø Villmarkssenter is your home in the wilderness.
