Northern Lights Chase by Minibus

General information

This tour is operated by Arctic Circle Tours Tromsø.

Join a small-group Northern Lights chase from Tromsø with a maximum of 15 guests. The guides monitor weather, cloud cover and aurora activity throughout the evening and adapt the route to look for areas with clearer skies and suitable viewing conditions.

The tour normally takes place by minibus with both a driver and a guide. For groups of seven guests or fewer, a minivan may be used with the driver also acting as the guide. Depending on the weather conditions, the journey may cover long distances and can cross the border into Finland.

The vehicles are equipped with free Wi-Fi and an onboard sky camera. The camera displays the night sky on a screen inside the vehicle throughout the journey, helping the guides monitor aurora activity and identify a safe place to stop when conditions are suitable.

During the evening, a hot meal from local producer Real Turmat is served together with snacks and hot drinks. When weather conditions allow, the group may also gather around a bonfire, with the opportunity to grill sausages and marshmallows. Vegetarian and vegan options are available, and dietary requirements should be communicated in advance.

Your guide will also share stories and myths about the Northern Lights. If you would like to photograph the night sky yourself, tripods for cameras and phones are available to borrow, and the guide can help with camera settings.

Professional portraits and landscape photos are included in full resolution when conditions allow for photography. Please remember that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed.

Warm suits, boots and ice spikes suitable for Northern Norwegian winter conditions can be borrowed when needed.

Food and drink: A hot meal, snacks and hot drinks are included. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. Please contact the operator in advance regarding allergies or other dietary requirements so the meal can be adapted accordingly.

Please bring: A valid passport, as the tour may cross the border into Finland. Please also bring a warm hat, mittens, thermal underwear and a camera or smartphone if you would like to take your own photos.

Departure time and place: 6:00 PM (18:00) from Ami Hotel, Skolegata 24, 9008 Tromsø. Meet at 5:45 PM (17:45).

Duration: Approximately 5–8 hours, depending on the weather and conditions. The tour most often returns before 1:30 AM (01:30).

Important information:

• The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed.
• All participants must bring a valid passport, as the tour may cross the border into Finland.
• For groups of seven guests or fewer, a minivan may be used instead of a minibus, with the driver also acting as the guide.
• The route is adapted according to weather, cloud cover and viewing conditions and may extend as far as Finland.
• Safety has the highest priority. The route or way the tour is carried out may be adjusted if conditions require it.
• Weather conditions are continuously monitored. If the guides assess at the meeting point that the likelihood of clear skies is very low, you may choose to cancel and receive a full refund or continue with the tour. If you choose to participate, no refund is available after departure.
