Experience the Northern Lights with Arctic GM on a flexible small-group expedition, featuring real-time tracking, expert Aurora Hunter guides, and cross-border chasing when needed — with professional photography included.

General information

Your adventure begins in the evening with a pickup from central Tromsø. You’ll meet your professional Northern Lights guide, who is also an experienced photographer, and settle into a modern, heated van designed for Arctic comfort and safety. Your small group ensures a personal, relaxed atmosphere, with plenty of opportunities for questions, learning, and photography.

Unlike standard tours that follow fixed routes and strict time limits, this expedition is fully flexible. Our back-office team monitors Aurora activity and weather conditions 24/7 using satellite data, advanced weather models, and live reports from our field teams across Northern Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Based on real-time conditions, your guide decides the best direction to chase clear skies — sometimes travelling far beyond Tromsø and even crossing borders if needed.

With unlimited mileage and time, we don’t rush the experience. The tour typically lasts between 6 and 10 hours, allowing us to wait patiently under clear skies until the Northern Lights appear. When the Aurora dances overhead, your guide will capture professional DSLR photographs of you beneath the Arctic sky, ensuring lasting memories of your night.

Throughout the journey, you’ll stay warm with thermal overalls, hot drinks (blueberry juice), and light snacks (muffins), even in extreme Arctic temperatures. Your guide will also share stories, local knowledge, and insights into the science and legends behind the Aurora Borealis.

This tour is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, with minimal walking and frequent stops chosen for safety, comfort, and optimal viewing. Most nights end with a successful Aurora sighting — but we stay out as long as it takes to give you the best possible chance.

This is not just a tour — it’s a true Northern Lights expedition, led by those who have lived under the Arctic sky for generations.

About Arctic GM Experiences

Arctic GM Experiences is a professional tour operator specialising in Northern Lights experiences and authentic Arctic adventures in Tromsø and Northern Norway.

Arctic GM Experiences builds on a family heritage in the Arctic dating back to the 1600s, with roots in Finnish Lapland and Northern Norway, including long-standing ties to the Tromsø region.

The company offers small-group, private, and larger group experiences, allowing guests to choose between more personal formats and cost-efficient alternatives. All tours are led by in-house, full-time professional guides — Aurora Hunters — with extensive local expertise. Arctic GM follows a philosophy of quality over quantity, focusing on safe, well-organised experiences in authentic Arctic environments, often away from the most crowded areas.

Northern Lights tours are operated using real-time weather and solar activity analysis, allowing guides to continuously adapt locations and routes to improve viewing conditions. When required, operations may extend across nearby regions and, if conditions demand, across national borders — including into Sweden and Finland — in search of clearer skies. Professional photography is included as part of selected experiences.

Arctic GM is committed to responsible tourism and ongoing sustainability efforts. The company works with carefully managed group sizes, follows responsible travel practices, and aims to minimise environmental impact while respecting local nature and communities.
