The Northern Lights cannot be ordered on demand. They appear on their own terms – as a green veil above the mountain peaks, a glowing band on the horizon, or a dance across the sky that lasts for hours. My job is to take you where it happens.
General information
This tour is conducted by Tromsø Activities.
We leave Tromso by minibus as darkness falls. At the same time, we closely monitor real-time forecasts, cloud cover, and solar activity. If necessary, we keep moving throughout the evening – deeper into the fjords, up to higher plateaus, or across to neighbouring islands – until we find clear skies. We are also among the first operators to introduce live Northern Lights cameras, allowing us to monitor weather and aurora conditions remotely.

Please bring: Dress in layers. Temperatures may drop to as low as -15°C. We recommend wool as a base layer, a fleece jacket, and a windproof outer layer. Bring extra socks and a warm hat.

Practical information:
Photography: A DSLR or mirrorless camera on a tripod will provide the best results. Your guide will be happy to assist with camera settings for the most common models.Modern smartphones can also capture excellent Northern Lights photos.

About Tromsø Activities
We`re a company with a wide acceptance for different personalities and opinions. When running a backpackers hostel it's natural that every culture drops by.
Thus we try to keep an international understanding while keeping our Norwegian colours. This means that we are fluent in “Backpacker”. Our philosophy is that travel should be for everyone. We do not care where you come from, but only that you are minded to take part in our community. The basic features of our travellers are openness, and acceptance. In the winter months, we do all we can to find the auroras, and in the summer months we make use of the midnight sun.
In our premises are 30 beds. The hostel is based on the basic “roof over one's head” need. We provide information which is useful for you travels, and basic shower/kitchen facilities. If you`re travelling and are interested in meeting new people, there is no better alternative than to spend a few nights at the Tromsø Activities Hostel.
