General information

This tour is conducted by Tromsø Villmarkssenter.

One of Tromsø Villmarkssenter’s main ambitions is participation in dog sledding races, and the training of our huskies throughout the entire year is therefore essential.

In summer, it is time for our puppies to receive their first lessons. After a 25-minute drive from Tromsø, you will be welcomed by our guides and receive a tour of our facilities. Afterwards, you will accompany an experienced handler on a 1–1.5-hour-long hike and help train our newest sled dogs, who are between 4 weeks and 7 months old. We will do different exercises to teach them teamwork with other dogs and humans.

Thereafter, we will serve you a delicious lunch of Bacalao, a fish dish that is part of traditional Norwegian cuisine, around an open fire in our Gamme-hut. A vegetarian option is available upon preliminary request.

About Tromsø Villmarkssenter

30 years ago, the renowned dog sled racer Tove Sørensen opened her home to guests from all over the world.

Since then, she and her family have dedicated their lives to educating visitors about Alaskan huskies, dog sledding and Arctic nature through sustainable outdoor activities.

We strive to be inclusive hosts in every regard – everybody who shares our passion is welcome. Vegetarian and vegan alternatives are available for all our programmes, and most of our activities are suitable for the whole family. Let your little ones play with our little ones in the puppy training programme, or take them on a sledding adventure safely chauffeured by one of our experienced guides. Infants aged 0–2 years are always free of charge, and we offer discounts for children.

Our facilities are also wheelchair accessible, and our dog sledding ride programme in particular is well suited to people with disabilities. However, our walkways can be a little difficult to manoeuvre, especially when covered in snow. Therefore, we recommend bringing a helper with you when you visit. Our standard shuttle service requires guests to board the bus independently, but we can arrange specialised transportation upon request. Please contact us if you are planning a visit; we would be delighted to tailor a smooth and barrier-free experience for you.

On our programmes, you will not only experience everything we love about our home, but also discover your own connection to the Arctic. Whether you let us teach you how to drive a sled or allow a four-legged hiking companion to show you their favourite trails, Tromsø Villmarkssenter is your home in the wilderness.
