Try the oldest vehicle from the arctic, feed our reindeer herd and enjoy the arctic landscape in this evening tour while the northern lights might appear above you!

General information

This tour is conducted by Tromsø Lapland

Meet our friendly herd of 200 reindeer and enjoy a magical sled ride of up to 20 minutes through the stunning Arctic landscape, beneath the beauty of the northern night sky!

Your journey begins with pick-up outside the Radisson Blu Hotel in Tromsø—just look for our guide in a traditional blue Luhkka (Sami poncho) and a bus marked with a large "SLEDDING" sign. Upon check-in, our team will give you a bracelet indicating that you're joining the sled ride.

You'll then embark on a scenic 45-minute drive through Northern Norway’s breathtaking mountains. Once you arrive at our camp, you’ll be warmly welcomed by our Sami guide, who will give a short safety briefing before leading you to the start of your adventure.

We divide into two groups for the sledding experience. The first group heads out immediately on a 2.5 km loop through untouched Arctic nature—this is your chance to try one of the world’s oldest forms of transportation and feel the spirit of the tundra, just as the Sami have for centuries. After that, it’s the second group’s turn to enjoy this timeless journey.

Following the sled ride, we’ll visit the reindeer enclosure, where you’ll have the opportunity to feed these gentle creatures—many will even eat straight from your hand!

As the evening deepens, keep an eye on the sky. According to Sami legend, the northern lights can make a sound. If we’re lucky and the skies are clear, you might witness the aurora dancing above in all its glory—our camp is in an area with minimal light pollution, perfect for spotting this natural wonder.

Next, we’ll gather in the cozy warmth of our Gamme (a modern version of a traditional Sami hut) or Lavvu (a traditional Sami tent similar to a tipi) for a hearty dinner. You’ll be served a hot drink and Biddos, our traditional Sami stew with reindeer meat, potatoes, and carrots. A vegan option is also available: a delicious vegetable soup made with lentils, carrots, broccoli, and green beans.

Once everyone is comfortable and relaxed, our Sami guide will share fascinating stories about Sami culture, history, and traditions, as well as show you examples of traditional clothing and handicrafts. You’re welcome to ask questions—curiosity is encouraged!

Before heading back to the city, you’ll have time for a bathroom break and a visit to our charming souvenir shop—perfect for finding a keepsake from your Arctic experience.

Included: Scenic transfers (45 minutes each way), knowledgeable English-speaking Sami guide, entrance to the fence and feeding of the herd at our camp, hot drinks and hot meal (traditional Sámi stew or vegetable soup), approximately 30 minutes of reindeer sledding, and stories about the life and culture of the Sámi people.
